A haunting ballad from one of the greatest bands of all time.
This song evokes the memories of all those who were failed by the authorities in Ireland, be those authorities colonial or Irish. Millions have been forced to emigrate due to unnecessary hardships and deprivations in our beautiful land, from before the Famine, during it, and since. We are a nation ruled by gobshites, who need a day of reckoning.
Today, tens of thousands have once again been forced to flee Ireland in search of a better life. We can’t blame the English Establishment this time…

Here’s a beautifully haunting ballad that reminds us of the emigration that took place from the Emerald Isle to the USA. It was written by Phil Chevron, of the Pogues, and stands as one of the most poignant songs of emigration ever penned.
