Here’s a wonderful piece of street rhyme from working class Dublin band, A Lazarus Soul, relatively new to the wider music scene. The emotive lyrics speak of life in the tenement flats of inner city Dublin before they were demolished in an ongoing program of gentrification. Rose-tinted spectacles are all-too commonplace, and its certain that life in those buildings was tough at times and not at all desirable. But there was also, at least in some places, a strong community spirit as working class people struggled to build and maintain lives in face of great social adversity.
Rebel Voice supports any band that will provide us with an account of such circumstances. All these stories matter and this song, Long Balconies, is an important comment upon life as it was, and still is for many. Hope you like it.
