Most of those who have been killed lived or worked in the areas previously under the control and protection of the revolutionary FARC movement. While some of the killings have been carried out by state forces, most have been perpetrated by right-wing paramilitaries funded and trained by the US government and the multi-national corporations who wish to cleanse the land of campesinos to better expand upon and increase their crop yields.
