Here are two versions of the famous Irish folk song that tells of a young emigrant who leaves his native land to seek a better life in New York. The lyrics pay homage to the strong relationship between the Irish and the New York Police Department. As is the case with many emigres, it is not always possible to return home to the place where you were born and grew up, and many of those who left never saw Ireland again.
The first rendition shown is from Ryan McMullan, a young singer/songwriter from the Occupied Six Counties (OSC). The second is by the original performers, and many would argue always the best, The Wolfe Tones. Which do you prefer?
