When Bernadette Devlin (McAliskey) first emerged on the Irish political scene, she was a breath of fresh air. Devlin was educated, eloquent, fiery and fearless. If not for the fact that she was so principled, she would have had a prominent career in politics.

Modern Irish and British politics has no time for those who have scruples, morals and principles. We can see this by how difficult Jeremy Corbyn is finding it, even though he is far better suited to lead than any Tory… ever.

Bernadette Devlin’s final sentence in this clip, is a classic. Slapping the obnoxious Tory ‘Home Secretary’, Reginald Maudling, after he claimed that the Paras on Bloody Sunday shot in ‘self-defence’ earned Devlin the admiration of millions. I hope we see her like again…
