The Simpsons has become a cult classic. Since its inception in 1989, 662 episodes have been broadcast making it the longest running US sitcom. Viewers have been entertained to the exploits of characters such as Bart, Moe, Lisa, Krusty and, of course, Homer. It even predicted the election of Donald Trump to the US presidency.
The show has given us many famous quotes such as “D’oh“, and “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” which was used by US political commentators to describe the French but was firstly the words of Groundskeeper Willie. There is also “I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords” which is an ironic comment upon any submissive posture, and let’s not forget “Here’s to alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.”
