The Beautiful South were born of the Housemartins in eighties England. Both Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway were in both. They had a string of hits that made them a household name across The Celtic Isles. This one is probably their best known. The lyrics were adjusted to avoid offending delicate sensitivities. The main line, ‘Don’t marry her, have me’, was originally ‘Don’t marry her, fuck me’. As you can see, the authors, Dave Rotheray and Paul Heaton, were not shy about telling it like it is. The song has a great lively beat and fantastic lyrics that set the scene beautifully. Enjoy.
