Vietnam War – Fortunate Son

This is probably the song most associated with the Vietnam War. It tells of how the sons of the financial elite managed to avoid the draft to that brutal and unnecessary conflict. The question of how such monied individuals remained at home, could again be asked as Donald Trump and the US military-industrial complex prepare for global conflict with Russia and Iran, and perhaps China.

Fortunate Son is a tune that has been included in more Vietnam war movies than any other. It can be summarized in the words of Sartre,‘When the rich wage war, it’s the poor who die’.

Rebel Voice concurs.
