It’s got shape-shifters, cranky cops and macabre events in small town America as the plot sweeps from Oklahoma to Ohio to Texas. It also delves into Mr Mercedes as King merges two plots into one finely crafted tale.
It’s an inflated mess that takes serious liberties with the character of Sherlock Holmes. As a historical novel it might have been OK if edited, but as a mystery thriller? Forget it.
It’s a funny book about dementia told with great sensitivity. Poignant, insightful and informative, Goodbye, Vitamin will grab you gently and hug you until you both weep and smile. Why not give it a go?
